Northern Lights!!!!!

We did get to see the Northern Lights last evening. They put on quite a show!!!! They were visible for three hours! Greens and purples, the works! Unfortunately – they don’t seem to translate well to iPhone photography – even with a time lapse exposure. 🙁

In the meantime – enjoy the sunrise photos.

National Geographic Photos

Woke up this morning to even more snow and it was still coming down. So we decided to forgo Gullfoss and head straight to Snaefellsnes Peninsula. That worked out well as the sun came out just as we arrived. It’s really beautiful here. Complete with rainbows and sunsets.

Iceland

It snowed today, but we were able to get out and see the green part of Iceland before the moss got covered.

Sunrise is around 11:00 am and sunset at 3:45 pm – so there aren’t many daylight hours to explore the countryside. It is really desolate in most areas, with some small fishing villages along the coastline.

Lucca

Our friend suggested we spend a few days in Lucca, and I am glad we took the suggestion. It’s a beautiful walled city with many lovely churches and towers. It’s a beautiful site to climb up (at least) one of the towers and look over all the lovely red tiled roofs. Home of Puccini, every night a church or similar venue hosts an hour long concert with the music and songs from his operas. We were able to attend one of these events. It was lovely!
