Blue Skies, Bougainvillea, Beaches and Beautiful Sunsets
This is Mykonos!
Mykonos Cats
The cats are everywhere and pretty friendly, but we really miss our Skammer!
Delos – the Mythical Birthplace of Apollo and Artemis
Fascinating! This small island off Mykonos was first populated in the 3rd millennium BC. From the 8th century BC it became a shrine to Apollo.
It has a fascinating history and several interesting artifacts.
Ios to Mykonos
We are trying to ride on every imaginable type of ferry in the Greek Islands, but I suspect that we will only scratch the surface.
In a very sad way, we did actually reach Everest on our trip.
We have arrived in Mykonos, this is a shot of the iconic windmills.
We fill up on a traditional Greek breakfast every morning, which offers a multitude of breads, I suspect these mills went non-stop in their day just to keep up with the demand.
Next Stop – Ios
We said farewell to the beautiful island of Santorini this morning. We braved another form of ferry transportation – this time a fast catamaran – and find ourselves on the island of Ios. Tradition claims this is the island where the poet Homer is buried. We think there is a business opportunity for a donut shop at the site of Homer’s grave, but from the foot traffic there we think the vast majority of clients will be goats.
Greek Vistas
We said goodbye to Kos (after viewing an impressive sunset and sunrise) and took the ferry to Santorini. Can’t wait to see their famous sunset.
Did I mention earlier that Greece makes our 59th country we have visited together?
Itinerary Update
Next stop – the Greek Islands.
We have lightened our load (a little) and left some luggage at our hotel
in Istanbul. Hopefully, we will be a little lighter on our feet as we take ferries from island to island.
If we have read all the ferry timetables and ports of call correctly, we will hopefully spend some time in Kos, Santorini, Naxos, Mykonos and Patmos.
Spice Market
The pictures don’t do this place justice. You have to be there to take in the wonderful scent. There is an entire city block of these vendors under one roof!
